Reporting standard changes

Personal Identifier Question 2010
The new Personal Identifier Question (PIQ) has been set for 2010 and is valid from 1 January 2010.
A PIQ is used as a means of audit verification for telephone and electronic registrations (e.g. via internet or e-mail) for controlled free circulation or exhibition attendees. Note: For shows ending on or after 1 September 2009 registration information (including the PIQ) is only required for those individuals for whom you are claiming demographic data, or may wish to claim as a magazine controlled circulation copy. See the rule change below.

It must be asked, recorded and the information retained for audit for telephone and electronic requests (e.g. via internet or e-mail) claimed as controlled free circulation , for source documents used to support non-requested controlled circulation obtained by these means or for telephone/internet exhibition registrations where you are claiming demographic data. Please see the relevant Reporting Standards for more information.

Publishers must use the following question from 1 January 2010

• What is the month of your birth? – recorded numerically (1 – 12).

For example: ‘August’ would be ‘8’. It is suggested that if asking the question on an internet form a drop down menu/box could be used.

The Personal Identifier Questions (PIQ) for 2009 which are valid from 1 January 2009 to 31 December 2009 are as follows.

Publishers may use either:

The town or city of your birth (or the first two letters of the town or city of your birth). [For example, London or LO]

OR

Last Secondary/High School attended [The full name, for example: St Paul’s]

For shows ending on or after 1 September 2009, simplification of the reporting of attendance figures to Total Unique Attendance broken down by Visitor Attendance and Exhibitor Attendance, including for COAs (not Profiles) the removal of the need to audit registration information and option of reporting repeat visits for visitor attendance
