Fair Data accreditation is available to consumer organisations, suppliers of research and data and public bodies.
To become Fair Data accredited, companies must adhere to twelve core principles. Our role is to independently audit companies to these principles prior to MRS issuing their accreditation.

Steps to certification
Getting to know you
A member of our Account Management team will work with you to find out your requirements an answer any questions you have about the audit process.
Preparing for the audit
We’ll introduce you to your auditor, who’ll work with you to understand your business and how your processes meet the MRS Fair Data Principles. We’ll also discuss the documents and evidence that you’ll need to provide for the audit. Your audit scope is confirmed and timelines agreed.
Conducting the audit
Your auditor will conduct a series of tests to verify your organisation’s adherence to the MRS Fair Data Principles. This includes; completing sample testing on the data against the Fair Data Principles. Assessing and verifying reporting. Confirmation of data integrity.
Sharing the findings
Once the audit is complete your auditor will present their findings to you. If there are any areas where you don't meet the principles, the report will detail actions or recommendations for remediation. We'll discuss these with you before the report is issued to MRS and provide guidance where appropriate.
Receiving the seal
MRS Fair Data Accreditation Board will review our audit report. If they approve it you’ll be issued the MRS Fair Data Seal.
